Abstract: The computation of spherical means is important in various models of photo-acoustic imaging. In this talk we will consider approximation methods for this problem. We use the typical setting that the function is given only on a regular grid and the spherical means have to be computed on scattered center points for a set of radii. For comparison we begin with a naive algorithm, which is based on a quadrature formula. Subsequently we develop a second method by using tools from Fourier analysis. Finally, the results of extensive numerical tests will be discussed.
