Abstract: The aim of my two talks is to discuss an invariant of a projective variety called the Hilbert polynomial. The first talk is to give some important knowledge required to understand how Hilbert polynomials are constructed. I shall give some insights into concepts such as affine/projective spaces, varieties, irreducible varieties, and the dimension and the degree of a variety.
